He was born on July 23, 1920 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Otto and Emma Becker. He was the third child of a family of four children. His father was a lifetime teacher in Lutheran parochial schools. Elmer also followed this profession for 42 years until he retired at age 65. He studied for the teaching profession at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and graduated in 1941. He taught one year in Marysville, Kansas, and transferred to Lombard, Illinois in 1942 to teach at Trinity Lutheran School in York Center just south of Lombard. He met Delores Nordbrock there and they were married in 1951. In 1952 he accepted a call to teach at St. Martins’ Lutheran school in Winona, Minnesota. After six years there, he accepted a call to teach at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Chicago Heights, Illinois where he taught until his retirement in 1985.

Elmer is survived by Delores, his wife of 66 years; three children: Mark (Joanne) Becker of Crete, IL, James (Natalie) Becker of Weston, WI, and Patricia (Michael) Fry of Bloomington, IL; eight grandchildren; David (Caryn) Becker of Homewood, IL, Stephanie Becker of Crete, IL, Katherine Becker of Wheaton, IL, Sarah Becker of West Allis, WI, Kyle Becker of Sheboygan, WI, Eric Becker of Weston, WI, Haley Fry of Chicago, IL, and Ellery Fry of Tampa, FL; and one great grandson: Barrett Becker of Homewood, IL.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 12:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3212 Old Costa Ln, Schofield. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Andrew Franzo will officiate.

Delores, Mark and Family, Jim and Family, Patty and Family,
Pat and I were saddened to hear that the end of an era has occurred.
Elmer Becker was a great Christian, leading by example how to lead your life!!
I remember as kids when Uncle Eddie and Aunt Ella would bring me and Toots to Chicago Heights to have a fun night at the Beckers!! It was always for a game and something to eat!!
It took me a while to figure out how I could be related to Delores and Elmer who was much older than I, but that’s what happens when Uncle Herb Nordbrock was an older brother, and my Dad, Eddie Nordbrock was a much younger brother!! Pat and I, and my siblings, Tom, Dave, and Toots send our Nordbrock family sympathies and love your way. We will meet with Elmer again someday!!
    Cousin Gary Nordbrock(Florida)

Thinking of you all at this time of Elmer’s passing. We rejoice with you on a life well lived and on Elmer’s attaining of his life long goal of spending eternity with God in heaven. May God comfort you in this knowledge as you adapt to a life without him. Dave & Willie

Mr. Becker was my teacher for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade at St. Paul’s/Chicago Heights. How could he not be one of the biggest influences in my life. Every school day began with him playing our favorite hymns on the piano. My condolences to Mark, James, Pat and their families. Your father/grandfather has finished his race and now rejoices with all the company of heaven. Well done, good and faithful servant!
