    To the family of Jason,

I did not know Jason but will forever be bound to him because he was taken in the same series of events that took the life of my sister, Dianne Look, on March 22, 2017. It is still so foreign to speak of her in the past tense. None of this all makes sense to us and to our family and I’m fairly certain that those who loved Jason must feel the same. Maybe some day we can meet and get to know him a little bit better.

    Our sympathy to your family,

    Denise Preston

My heart is breaking for all of you. I was privileged to watch the service online yesterday and to stand on the sidewalk watching with a heavy heart as the procession drove by on 6th street. What an amazing tribute. Eileen – a special hug to you. I’ve cried many tears thinking about you and the loss of your son as I recall at the same time the cheerful spirit that always greets me at the Eye Clinic. I am so very, very sorry for the loss you have all experienced. Please know that sincere prayers and loving thoughts are being sent to all of we. May you find comfort and peace in the healing process.

I remember Jason from 5th grade at Thomas Jefferson Elementary. I was new in school. He quietly put a stack of coins on my desk, and smiled. Then walked away. It was 35 cents, with the largest coin on bottom. I wrote about in my diary. It was puzzling, yet touching. I remember him as a solid kid. I am glad to have crossed paths with him. May everyone who is heavy with grief find levity in something small. Peace.

    Kara, Ella and Anna,
Our hearts were deeply saddened at the news from our former hometown. We remember Jason, your beloved husband and loving dad, standing in our kitchen probably with Dan Rennie and Ben Nelson and telling my wife Jennie and me of his dream of having a career in law enforcement. How honorably he lived out that dream. When our daughter Amy called to tell us of your loss I remembered that moment.
No words can possibly express the grief that you and so many others feel now. As the days pass, may you always uphold the memory of his honor, courage, love and sacrifice. The Easter season brings those in Christ the healing hope of the resurrection grounded in the reality of that morning so long ago. For the faithful, the family circle will not always remain broken. As I told our church last Sunday of Wednesday’s awful events, though through tears, we prayed for you in hope and love.
May tomorrow’s service, attended as it will be by family, friends, colleagues, loved ones and neighbors also have the felt presence of Him who said, ” I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live”.

With fondest memories, earnest prayer and loving regards,

    Dave and Jennie Tietjen
