James McCabe

February 27, 1938 — June 25, 2018

On the evening of June 25, 2018, James Lee McCabe passed away in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Heaven has gained an amazing man.

He was born February 27, 1938 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Walter and Verba (Schell) McCabe. He graduated from Gerstmeyer High School and Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He went on to teach in the Portage School systems as a math and computer skills teacher for 30+ years. From there he retired in 1993 to Schofield, Wisconsin where he kept busy working in the D.C. Everest School Districts as a computer technician. He retired in 2004 to enjoy life with family.

On July 8, 1961, James married his high-school sweetheart, Roberta Eagle and together they had four kids: Jaymi, Timothy, Thomas, and Michael. They raised their children with much love and compassion, teaching them that, through hard work and dedication, anything can be achieved. Together, they always put the needs of their children and family first. James is preceded in death by his son, Thomas. In his retirement, he kept busy by grooming and maintaining his 20+ acre family plot of land. He loved planting his huge gardens, even though he would have to wage war on deer, squirrels, and racoons. He also thoroughly enjoyed toying with computers and algorithms in his spare time. James was a marathon runner, his greatest achievement being a 2 time runner of the Boston Marathon, also running in the Chicago Marathon and an ultra marathon.

James is preceded in death by his parents, his brother William McCabe, and son, Thomas McCabe.
