What to do upon the death of a loved one

Following is a list of the steps Brainard Funeral Home can assist you with prior to, during and after a funeral service.

  1. Contact clergy person to discuss appropriate prayers, scripture verses, music and eulogy
  2. Contact funeral director to Arrange transportation of the body
  3. Place obituary and radio announcement
  4. Determine date and time of funeral service
  5. Obtain certified copies of death certificate
  6. Discuss specifics of ceremony, including:
    • Where service is to be held
    • Music selection
    • Disposition – burial, entombment, cremation
    • Religious, Fraternal, or Military organization participation during the visitation, funeral or burial
    • Selection of casket, burial vault, urns
    • Clothing and jewelry
    • Photographs for DVD and collages or other special memorabilia
    • Memorial request for a designated charity
  7. Confirm time and date of services with the funeral director and clergy
  8. Notify family and friends of time and place of funeral and services
  9. Select a florist and determine what type and color of flowers you would like, as well as how floral arrangements are to be distributed after the funeral service
  10. Contact monument company about monument purchase or engraving
