Alice D. Dahlke, 90, of Wausau, died Monday, November 18, 2024. She was under the care of Pride TLC and Interim Health Care of Wausau.
Alice was born July 17, 1934, in Bevent on the family farm by a mid-wife to the late Bernard and Dora (Bednarski) Domask. She married Daniel L. Dahlke on May 21, 1960, at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent.
Alice's first employment position was at First American National Bank in Wausau. She resigned from her position when her first child was born to raise her children. She then returned once the youngest was self-sufficient and first started at Kreger’s Bakery as a cashier, Pine Grove Cemetery for a few years, and finally, for the last 15 years, at the Post Office as a mail processor in Wausau, retiring at the age of 62. She was revered for her dedication to any job she had in her career.
She was an avid gardener noted for her strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb, and kohlrabi and then creating wonderful jams. She enjoyed baking, canning, bowling, playing bingo, listening to polka music, Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra, and was a passionate polka dancer.
She was an active volunteer at the Marathon County Health Center and worked at the Bingo's at St. Mary's. She also spent time visiting homebound friends in their homes.
She was active in The Homemaker's Club in Wausau, where they would meet monthly and have a yearly Christmas party. There was a volunteer aspect to the organization.
Alice had a pen pal from Japan where they exchanged numerous letters and gifts. Her pen pal visited her here in Wisconsin, and then Alice went to visit her pen pal in Japan. Their friendship began in the 50's when Alice was in high school and lasted until the early 2000's.
Survivors include her two sons, David (Pascaline) Dahlke of Los Angeles, CA and Dennis Dahlke of Kronenwetter, WI; a daughter, Denise (Dean) Buxton of Cumberland, RI. Four grandchildren, a set of twins, Lea and Lucas Dahlke, and Sean (Katie) and Brian (fiancé Catherine) Buxton. Her siblings included twin brothers, Bernard (Barney) and Daniel Domask both deceased, sister Eleonore (Domask) Brunner, and brother Leonard (Lenny) Domask deceased.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Brainard Funeral Home and Cremation Center (Wausau Chapel), 522 Adams Street, Wausau.
