David J. Barttelt, 74, of Wausau, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024. He was born in Wausau, on November 4, 1950, to the late Myron and Rosemary (Burns) Barttelt.
David was known by family and friends as "Barty". Barty grew up in Brokaw and lived his remaining time in the Wausau area. After graduation he served in the US Navy stationed on the USS Farragut. He later retired from 3M in 2013 after 30 plus years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and had a seasonal camping site at Wildlife in Birnamwood for many years. Barty always liked to tell jokes and long stories. He would bethe first one to buy you a drink at a local bar. Barty loved his beers and doing rip tickets. He also collected guns, riffles, and Packer memobilia.
He enjoyed breakfast with his sisters at the Eagles Nest. He also had a routine of sliding his grandson money behind his back for chicken nuggets.
David is survived by his son, Kevin (Lynn) Barttelt; grandchild, Trevor, Rebecca, Riley, Andy; great-grandchild, Aspyn; siblings, Susann Barttelt, Mary Krueger, and Connie (Kevin) Kazianka; special friend, Jamie Kalson; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elizabeth; sisters, Lois (Jerry) Kufalk, Kathryn McCoy, and Kristine Mais.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Brainard Funeral Home in Wausau. A visitation will run from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. Military honors will be held following services at the funeral home. A burial at Restlawn Memorial Park will take place at a later date.
