Delores Elaine (De Hoogh) Hanson, age 87, of Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community with family by her side. Delores was born to Theodore and Tetta (Buss) De Hoogh on February 23, 1937, in Marion, South Dakota. She graduated from Marion High School in 1955. Delores studied elementary education at Central College in Pella, Iowa and received her undergraduate degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She obtained her Master's degree in elementary education from Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Delores married the late David Lee Hanson on May 28,1960 in Marion, South Dakota. The couple moved to the Wausau area in 1965 and enjoyed 60 wonderful years together until the time of David's passing in November of 2020. Delores taught second grade at Weston Elementary School for nearly 30 years. While Delores was a devoted teacher, her deepest passions included her faith in Jesus Christ, her family, and her friends. Delores was an active member of New Hope Community Church where she thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir, as well as playing both the piano and organ. David and Delores also spent many years volunteering for a variety of Christian organizations in the Wausau area and Orlando, Florida.Delores also delighted in spending time with friends and family for food and fellowship.
Delores was preceded in death by her loving husband, David; and her parents Theodore and Tetta (Buss) De Hoogh. She is survived by her sons Jon (Beth) and Steven (Lisa); six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and her brother, Arthur De Hoogh.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Benedictine Living Community and Compassus Hospice for their loving care. The family also extends heartfelt appreciation for the loving kindness shown to Delores by her dear friends and relatives.
Funeral Services will be held on June 15, 2024 at New Hope Community Church, 229375 County Road J, Wausau, Wisconsin 54403. Visitation will be from 10:00AM - 11:00AM at the church, followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM officiated by Mr. Kelvin Fraaza. Burial will follow the memorial service at Forestville Cemetery, in the town of Easton.
