Douglas J. Bergstrom, 76, of Wausau passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at St. John's for making our father and husband comfortable during his brief time in the hospital. He was born in Stanley, WI, to the late Edward and Anita (Laabs) Bergstrom on January 19, 1941. He married Margene Pfalzgraf on January 16, 1965 in Abbottsford. Together they had two sons, Drew and Chad. Upon graduating from Owen-Withee High school, and after briefly attending UW-Madison, Doug began working with his dad at the Bergstrom Oil Co. in Owen and then co-owning the Black River Oil Co. in Neillsville. In 1966, he was hired as a Stockbroker for Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood starting in Eau Claire then moving to Wausau in 1968. Eventually Doug became the Branch Manager, and then moved to St. Paul, MN, as the Branch Manager in 1981. Retiring in 1995 after six years with Smith Barney in Scottsdale, AZ, Doug and Margene shared their time between Scottsdale and Wausau. Doug was an avid golfer at the Wausau Country Club and Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and going to lunch with the guys. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margene; sons, Drew (Suzy) Bergstrom and Chad; 2 grandchildren, Evan and Kyle, all of St. Paul, MN. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Michele Bergstrom, her three children and four grandchildren.
