Elverna Joy Imig, age 84, of Weston, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025, with family by her side and her beloved husband, Norm, awaiting her in heaven.
A Vistation will be held on Thursday, March 13th from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Wausau Bible Church, 1300 Grand Ave in Wausau, WI with Pastor Chris Juvinal officiating. Elverna will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Ogema, WI.
Elverna was born to Verner and Evelyn Johnson on October 12, 1940, in Ogema, Wisconsin. She grew up on a small family farm just east of Ogema. Along with farm chores and helping with her three younger brothers, Elverna attended Ring School in the Town of Hill and eventually graduated from Prentice High School in May of 1958. After deciding to pursue a degree in teaching, Elverna continued her studies at the Taylor County Teachers' college and completed her Bachelors degree at the University of Wisconsin Superior. Her passion for teaching led to a fulfilling career as a third-grade teacher at Franklin Elementary school in Wausau where she inspired and educated young minds for 31 years, making many lifelong friendships along the way.
Elverna met the love of her life, Norman Imig, in 1966 and after a long courtship, they were married at the Ogema Baptist Church on June 17, 1972. They were happily married for over 50 years! Together, they enjoyed helping friends and neighbors when they were in need as well as devoting their time to various local organizations. Traveling was another passion that they shared and together they were able to explore the US, Canada and Europe by land, sea and air. Their faith was an important part of their lives, and they were devoted members of Wausau Bible Church.
Elverna found joy in cooking and baking, often sharing new recipes and freshly baked treats with colleagues and neighbors. She had an amazing talent for writing and spent countless hours writing and sending cards for holidays, birthdays, sympathies, get wells or just because! She enjoyed many hobbies including crafts, reading, puzzles and games. Elverna also had a knack for telling funny stories that would have everyone in stitches. Elverna lived a very full life, touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
Elverna is survived by her two brothers and their wives, Ardo and Suzanne Johnson and Kenneth and Lynn Johnson all of Ogema, as well as many close friends and relatives, too many to list.
Preceding Elverna in death are her beloved husband, Norman, parents, Verner and Evelyn Johnson, and brother, Wayne Johnson.
