Jeffery A. Steckling, 53, died on August 31st after a 10 month battle with neuroendocrine cancer. He was born on 11/30/64 in Wausau to Alice and Arnold Steckling and graduated from Wausau East High School in 1983.
Jeff was most recently employed with O’Brien Steel until the time of his diagnosis. His most valued career accomplishment was the time he spent with 29 Super Foods. He was loved as a manager, friend, and community leader. He loved contributing to his community and cared about all of his customers and employees he met throughout his years there.
Jeff dedicated his time and talents to the YMCA for many years: facilitating Membership Drives and Invest in Youth Campaigns, and served in leadership roles on the Board of Directors, in Competitive Gymnastics, and on the Youth Committee. Jeff also loved tending to his beautiful flower gardens, and he enjoyed woodworking and practicing photography—one of his hidden talents. Jeff’s pride and joy was his three children, Sam, Tony, and Juliea. He was active and engaged with their activities, including Boy Scouts, gymnastics, community theatre, and dance. Jeff was a welcome presence everywhere he went; he was a generous helping spirit, always putting others above himself.
Jeff is survived by his long term partner Angie Wanta, children Sam, Tony, and Juliea, mother Alice, brothers Scott (Tammy), Mike (Dena), Craig (Moriah Lowrie), Sister-in-law Tammie (Tim), Father-in-law Lloyd, nieces Sara, Kylie, Melissa and Nicole, and nephew Kurt.
He was preceded in death by his father Arnold and mother-in-law, Julie Wanta.
Jeff’s Celebration of Life will be Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Willow Springs Garden, 5480 Hillcrest Drive, Wausau (visitation from 11:00 am until the time of service). A social gathering and luncheon will follow. Casual dress is requested.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to his children Samantha, Anthony, and Juliea Wanta.
