Josephine A. Wanta (Josie),93, peacefully passed away on November 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 4, 1931, Josie was the backbone of her family and was known for her kind, loving and gentle nature.

A devoted Catholic, Josie was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Bevent, WI. When she was unable to attend Mass in person, she held true to her faith, watching televised mass. Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her every step and inspiring those who knew her. Josie leaves behind a legacy of family, love, and God. She will be deeply missed by all that were lucky enough to have known her.

Josie’s greatest joys included spending time with her family, making countless memories full of love and laughter. She was known for her homemade recipes, especially for her pickles. Josie also loved going out to eat with family and friends and watching gameshows, where she was often smarter than most contestants, even at 93. Josie retired after 30 years with Brigg’s & Stratton. 

Josie is survived by her children, Linda (Edward) Race, Karen Kass, and Wayne (Sherry) Wanta; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; Brother, Peter (Barbara) Bungert, sister-in-law’s, Gerrie Bungert, Shirley Bungert, Leone Bungert, Terenia Gruna, Rita Wanta, Caroline Wanta; brother-in-law, John Schwartz and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anton Wanta; son, Hilary Wanta; parents, Joseph and Pauline Bungert; sisters, Marie (Len) Flatoff & Helen Schwartz; brother’s, Chester (Josie) Bungert, Donald Bungert, Harry Bungert, Robert (Barbara) Bungert, Edward Bungert, & Micheal Bungert; brother-in-law’s, Elmer (Bernice) Wanta, Ambrose Wanta, August Wanta Jr. & Harry Gruna; sister-in-law’s, Loretta (Bill) Ostrowski & Louise (Phil) Stemo. 

The family will honor her life with a visitation, to be held at St Ladislaus Catholic Church 173141 WI-153 Bevent, WI, on December 14th, 2024, from 9am-11am. The service will begin promptly at 11am. An entombment ceremony will take place at Resurrection Cemetery 900 W Donges Bay Rd. Mequon, WI, on December 16th, 2024, at 12:30pm in the Mausoleum. Those wishing to honor Josie’s life & legacy are welcome to attend.
