Karl Joseph Pietsch, of Wausau, passed away at his home on Oct. 31, 2017, his 94th birthday. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucie Pietsch; 5 children, Wolfgang Pietsch, Claudia Carlson, Renate Wisniewski (Ray), Christopher Pietsch (Kathy) and Andrew Pietsch; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Karl was born in Villingen, Black Forest in Germany, to Berta and Karl Pietsch. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Bertl. Karl was a member of the German Navy prior to coming to the United States with his son, Wolfgang, in 1954. Germany, his homeland, always remained in his heart and on his mind, but it was a proud day when he became an American Citizen. In Rockford, Illinois, he met the love of his life, Lucie, who had recently come from Germany, as well. They soon married and started their lives together. In his working years, Karl worked in sales and later as a district manager. "Opi" as he was known to his family, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping at Clear Lake and Lake Madeline and fostered a love of those activities in his family. Karl loved playing and listening to music of all kinds and brightened the hearts of many with his harmonica and accordion playing. He cared about all animals, especially his cat "Sunshine". He also got great enjoyment out of feeding and watching the outside animals. Karl was an avid reader and historian. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017, at 11:00 am at The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Wausau. Visitation will take place from 10:00 until the time of the service. Lunch will follow the service.
