Leora Jane Mitchell

May 21, 1924 — March 21, 2025

Weston

With a heart as warm as the Wisconsin sun, Leora Jane Mitchell passed peacefully into eternal rest on March 21, at the age of 100. Born in Wausau, on May 21, 1924, Leora graced this world with her kindness, impeccable manners, and unwavering generosity. She spent her entire life in her beloved hometown, where she made an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. She married the love of her life Robert Mitchell on May 7th, 1948.

Leora's life was a tapestry woven with compassion, reflection, and a deep love for her family. As an Assistant Clerk of Court for Marathon County, she exhibited a quiet dedication to her work, always approaching her duties with the utmost propriety and grace. Her gentle spirit was mirrored in her passions-playing bridge with friends, tending to her garden, and sharing heartfelt moments with family. The antique study club at the YWCA, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the garden club enriched her life, allowing her to nurture not only beautiful blooms but also lasting friendships.

Polite and composed, Leora was never one to stress, always choosing a kind word over unkindness. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel at ease, whether it was over a glass of wine (in the proper glass) or during lively discussions at her favorite gatherings. Her laugh and zest for life left an imprint, a joyful memory to be cherished by all who crossed her path. Leora's big heart resonated with those around her, serving as a beacon of warmth and love for her beloved nephews and niece, Craig Wilder, Scott (Bonnie) Paulson, Chuck (Jane) Paulson, and Sue (Mike) Olson, who will carry her spirit forward. Leora is further survived by her extended family; friends; and special neighbors who watched over her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mitchell; parents, Marvin and Eva Pregont; siblings, Kermit Pregont and Lotus Kendall; and nephews, Jon Wilder and Scott Wilder, niece, Anne Farmer, and great nephew, Jonathan Paulson.

We wish to thank Marci Amelse, Lexis, Rilynn and Brynn, her caregivers, for the love and care they showed Leora over the past five years. Thank you for all you have done.

Thank you also to Rennes for the care given to Leora.
