Lucille Ruth Peterson, 90 years old, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, of acute kidney failure, in Wausau. She was born on a dairy farm outside of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to Arthur and Orpha Schultz in the spring of 1928. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1949, with a Bachelor's of Philosophy, and a year later earned her Master of Science (Education) degree from Syracuse University. In 1951, she married Thomas H. Peterson, and the couple soon moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where Thomas served in the U. S. Navy for three years. After Thomas received his medical degree back in Madison, the couple and their three children relocated to Wausau, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Lucille was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Churcha�"mother's circle, Bible studies, and church council. Among her other interests were gardening, bird watching, camping, cooking, and spending time at the family cottage on Pike Lake. During and after raising their five children, Lucille and Thomas traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, Russia, and other countries. Mrs. Peterson is survived by her five children, Christian, Lorinda, Jane, David, and Rebecca, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was one young son, Mark, and her husband Thomas in 2014. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, May 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 Adams Street, Wausau with a visitation at 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Dr. Niveen Sarras will officiate. Due to the holiday weekend, a private family burial will take place at a later date at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
