Mary B. Pepowski, passed away unexpectedly, and too soon, at the age of 59, on July 29, 2020, while at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Mary was born August 21, 1960 in De Pere, Wisconsin to Georgiana (Hazen) Plamann. She married Joseph Pepowski on April 20, 1985. Mary grew up in DePere, where she excelled in basketball. Mary was a varsity player her freshman year and played in the state tournament. She went on to attend UW Stout and graduated with degrees in vocational rehabilitation and special education. It was during this time she met Joe. Mary and Joe purchased The Mint Cafe in 1990, after giving birth to son Peter and being pregnant with daughter Angela.
Mary was an artist who worked in several different mediums. She loved flowers, especially Zinnias. Mary was a lover of all animals and spent most of her adult life fostering cats and volunteering at New Life Pet Adoption. She also spent years of her life participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program at the Boys and Girls Club. Mary will be remembered for her upbeat personality, love for everyone, and generosity. We will all miss her big heart, sense of humor and her cooking skills at The Mint.
We will miss her sending Joe on late night trips to Dairy Queen, decorating the house for Christmas, her love of all things colorful, stocking up on meat from Zillman’s when Peter came home, her love of storytelling, getting her nails done with Angela, and her inability to say no to Jurassic Park or Lifetime Movies. Mary also had a great love for her adopted grandson Augie, who she enjoyed spending time with. Mary will be missed by everyone she came in contact with.
Mary is survived by her husband of 35 years- Joe Pepowski, son Peter Pepowski and spouse Sam Blackwell, daughter Angela, and cats Jilly and Fiona.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Georgiana Plamann.
