Baby brother. Beloved uncle. Master mechanic. Kwik Trip aficionado. Perry Robert Manning, 74, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his Town of Easton home after a brief, yet extremely stoic battle with lung cancer surrounded by his amazing group of friends.
Perry was born in Wausau on September 1, 1950, to the late Daniel and Wilhelmina (Blattert) Manning.
Following graduation from D.C. Everest High School, Perry enlisted with the United States Army. He was assigned to the 10th Transportation Company as a heavy vehicle driver at Long Binh. After being awarded a Bronze Star in October 1970, Perry was transferred to Fort Dix and was honorably discharged from active duty as a SP4 in November 1970.
Perry worked as a diesel mechanic at Ryder until his retirement. His mechanic skills were simply legendary. He performed thousands of car, truck, and tractor repairs for family and friends over the years.
Perry adored being in the woods. He made maple syrup with Wesley for many years and absolutely loved making firewood. Despite a stage IV cancer diagnosis, he was planning to stock the house with the wood for winter he already cut and split.
Perry is survived by brother Wesley (Judy) Manning, sister-in-law Shirley Manning, and brother-in-law, LeRoy Moseng. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Tim (Shar) Moseng, Beth, Brenda, and Allan (Jennifer) Manning, Jeff (Julie) and Brad (Ivy) Manning. He is further survived by 9 great-nieces and great-nephews and his first great-great-nephew arriving January 2025.
Beside his parents, Perry was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Manning and sister, Wendy Moseng.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 20, 2024, at Brainard Funeral Home Wausau Chapel. Pastor Ryan Fehrmann will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Monday, September 23, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
The family is deeply appreciative of the exceptional friendship, kindness and compassionate care provided to Perry during his final days by Henry Wanserski, Fred, Donna, and Luke Ninnemann, Carrie, Dean, and Groot Kolbeck, and Becky and Josh Teichroew.
Until we see you next time.
