Richard William Woelfle, 77, unexpectedly passed away at his home in the Town of Stettin, on October 14, 2019 with his loving wife, Joan, of nearly 53 years, by his side.
Richard was born August 5, 1942 to the late William and Evelyn (Oelke) Woelfle.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Joan (Boisvert), children Todd (Mary) Woelfle, Janesville, WI; Kristan (Bill) Taylor, Oak Creek, WI; and Trisha (Rob) Kasper, Oshkosh, WI; grandsons Erik Woelfle, (Student at UW Madison) and Mitchell Woelfle (Cadet, US Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs); brother Ronald (Myrt) Woelfle, Wausau; brother-in-law Ronald (Pat) Boisvert, New York; sister-in-law Diane (Jule) Donofry, Pennsylvania; aunts Marjorie Fromm, Marathon and Joyce Oelke, Merrill; nephews and nieces Dr. Wade Woelfle, Fort Atkinson, Ronnie Jr., Diana, Scott, Joanne, Michelle, and Michael from NY and PA and many cousins and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and parents-in-law.
Dick grew up in Wausau and graduated from Wausau High School. Following high school he joined the U.S. Army. His last assignment was at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska where he met the love of his life, Joan. Dick and Joan were married December 2nd, 1966 in Watervliet, NY. Dick and Joan returned to Wausau to raise their family.
Dick’s career included heating and sheet metal work and eventually sales with Badger Metals. Will Heating and Cooling was his last employer. Dick was a member of the Wausau American Legion Post 10.
Dick enjoyed traveling and many outdoor activities. Dick and his family enjoyed camping at many Wisconsin State Parks. He was an avid bow and gun hunter who enjoyed the solitude of the woods and great times with family and friends back at the hunting shack. He fished northern Wisconsin and Lake Michigan and just returned from a Canadian fishing trip in August. He followed his grandsons’ baseball and football teams across the state and country. Dick spent many evenings playing cribbage and gin rummy with Joan. He was a faithful Wisconsin sports enthusiast following the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and yelling at the Packers. He also enjoyed watching war movies and occasional casino visits.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 25, 2019 at 11:00 am at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams Street, Wausau with a visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Rich Black will officiate the service. Richard will then be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, WI.
