Robert John "Bob" Seim, beloved husband, dad and grandpa, was taken home by his Savior on Sept. 1, 2024, after a 9-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer.
Bob and his twin brother Bill were born May 27, 1946, in Wausau to Leonard and Eleanor (Gruna) Seim. He attended Franklin and St. Michael's Elementary Schools, and graduated from Newman High School in 1964. Following that he enrolled at Northcentral Technical College, earning Associate Degrees in Marketing and Electronics.
Bob married Julia Ann Hackbarth on December 28, 1968, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wausau. They were married 55 years and had three sons.
Two months prior to their marriage Bob enlisted into the U.S. Army. He had been accepted into Special Forces and earned his Green Beret at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was then stationed at Flint Kaserne, Bad Toelz, Germany, where he and Julie lived until his discharge in 1971. He had attained the rank of Sergeant E5. While in Germany, Bob and Julie were able to travel to Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France.
Upon their return to Wisconsin, Bob returned to work with his father at Seim Appliance Co. in Wausau. He worked there until the store closed in 1989. Bob then worked at H&R Block and as a purchasing agent at CW Paper and Piper Products of Wausau, where he retired.
Family time was especially important to Bob and Julie. They enjoyed time spent at their cottage near Hazelhurst with their children and grandchildren. In 1995 they were able to take Steven and Scott to Germany to visit the area where Bob was stationed.
During retirement Bob became an avid reader and walker, and volunteered for several years at The Neighbors Place. He was also a long-time blood donor throughout his life.
He remained a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church his entire adult life.
Bob is survived by his wife, Julie; his brothers Jerome (Deb), Birnamwood, and William (Joan), Austin, TX; his sons Steven (Julie) Beaver Dam, and Scott (Brigitte), Edina, MN; and grandchildren Philip, Grace, Ingrid, and Greta. Besides his parents and Julie's parents, Kurt and Mildred Hackbarth, he was preceded in death by one infant son, John, and two grandchildren, Katherine and Fredrick.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Therese, Schofield, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Brainard Funeral Home, Weston, WI. Is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to St. Therese or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank all the kind and dedicated health care workers who attended Bob during his last 9 years, and Pastor Ryan Cortright who visited Bob and Julie during his last weeks.
Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Ephesians 5:14.
