Rometta Scherr Goetsch, age 85, of Wausau, WI, passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2024, at Primrose Memory Care, Weston, WI. During the weeks prior to her passing, Rometta was blessed with visits and calls by family and friends, and received special care from Primrose and Compassus hospice staff, and clergy from St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Family was with her when she passed. Rometta joined Ronnie in heaven after only being apart from him for 83 days.’
Rometta was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, on June 29th, 1939, to Martin and Margaret (Heggelund) Scherr. She was united in marriage to Ronald Goetsch June 25, 1960. Rometta was a loving wife to Ron and to their 2 daughters, Lori and Susan. Rometta and Ron were blessed with 63 years of marriage.
What Rometta loved most was doing things with her husband, Ronnie, including shopping, going for dinner, boating, fishing, and spending time at their cottage on Deer Lake in Tomahawk. They loved the lake so much that they built a new home on the property and lived on Deer Lake for about 20 years, before moving back to Wausau.
Rometta and Ron loved hosting parties for friends, family and employees. Rometta was a great cook and family always appreciated the beautifully set table and the exquisite meals at holidays and birthdays.
Rometta loved her flower gardens, cooking, jig saw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and embroidery/ needlepoint projects.
For several years, Rometta enjoyed working as an auditor at Wausau Insurance Company. In 1980, Ron and Rometta purchased Wausau Monument Company, and worked their until their retirement in 2005. Rometta was a great salesperson and office manager.
Rometta is survived by her daughter, Lori (Mike) Detjens, her sister, Bonnie Chase, son-in-law, Tom (Susan) Pergolski, her loving grandchildren, Seth (Jenna) Detjens of Woodbury, MN, Danielle (John) Ballschmieder of Wausau, and Logan Ballschmieder of Wausau. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Mykko Martinez, Wausau, Millie Martnez, Wausau, and Noland Detjens, Woodbury, MN.
Rometta was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie, and daughter, Susan (Tom) Pergolski.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at 12:00 PM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington Street in Wausau, WI. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM at St. Paul's until the start of the service.
