Virginia V. Basas

Virginia "Virgie" Basas, 80, of Weston, Wisconsin, passed away on September 26, 2024. Born on September 22, 1944, to the parents of Andres Abobo Basas and Macaria Varona Basas in Tanauan Leyte, Philippines. She was one of 8 children that included 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

She came to the United States in 1965 as an immigrant, a year later, she graduated from Assumption Academy High School. Her oldest sister was an American citizen, and she petitioned her in order for her to come to America. Virgie then lived with her sister and her family in San Francisco, California when she came to the United States.

In 1967 she met Allen Sternitzky, Sr. of Wisconsin while he was stationed in Presidio US Army post, in San Francisco. After 2 years of service in the military, he and Virgie returned to Wisconsin and married in 1968. They had one son, Allen Sternitzky, Jr. who was born in 1969 and they resided in Granton, WI.

Virgie worked at the Associated Bank in Marshfield as a Teller and in the Bookkeeping department for 20 years. Although her marriage to Allen Sternitzky, Sr. ended, she remained close friends with him and his wife Emelda, until his death in 2022.

In 1992 she moved to Wausau and worked at Graebel Van Lines Company in the Accounts Receivable department for 20 years and also worked part time at Sam's Club in Wausau for 14 years until she retired in 2017.

Also in 1992, she met Denis Wolowski and the two have been sweethearts for 32 years.

She felt very grateful and blessed for all of the opportunities that were given to her and also to those who supported her with her health, and especially to Denis, her long-time partner who was always there for her whenever she needed him.

She wished to be remembered as a loving mother to her son, as thoughtful and compassionate to others, and kind to animals.

She is survived by her partner Denis Wolowski, her son Allen Sternitzky, Jr. (Lynn Haefer) and many loving relatives.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at Brainard Funeral Home's Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Fr. Joseph Albert will officiate. Following the service, Virgie will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter.
