William Allington

William H. (Bill) Allington, age 88, of Wausau, WI passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, with his son, Mark, at his side. Bill was born in Stratford, WI on March 25, 1929, son of Ernest and Frieda (Klemme) Allington. In 1948, Bill enlisted in the US Air Force, and served as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Worker through the Korean Conflict, being honorably discharged in 1951 at the rank of Sergeant. While serving in the USAF, he married Lyla R. Fleming, on June 10, 1949 in Melrose Park, IL. Bill worked at a variety of auto dealerships in Wausau as an Auto Body Man. His last employment was painting large equipment at the Case Corporation in Schofield, WI. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood working. Every summer was spent at his cottage on Lake Stella in Rhinelander, WI. Survivors include his son, Mark (Julie); grandsons Ernie (Megan) and Will; great-grandsons, Alden and Elliot; and one sister, Bette (Glenn) Knorr. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lyla; brothers Donovan and Kenneth; and sister Lois (John) Hambrock. A funeral service will be held at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau on Wednesday, Dec 13, 2017. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, and a Prayer Service at noon, followed by a light lunch. A private burial service will be scheduled at a future date.
